this should be added to my earlier post from today:

"And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed—if all records told the same tale—then the lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.'"

"Your worst enemy, he reflected, was your nervous system. At any moment the tension inside you was liable to translate itself into some visible symptom."

"The ideal set up by the Party was something huge, terrible, and glittering—a world of steel and concrete, of monstrous machines and terrifying weapons—a nation of warriors and fanatics, marching forward in perfect unity, all thinking the same thoughts and shouting the same slogans, perpetually working, fighting, triumphing, persecuting—three hundred million people all with the same face."

(#1 is chilling.)
Good evening! In response to my "first question" the title of the blog is in reference to the dystopian novel 1984. You'll find that I reference it pretty often because it had a significant impact on me. The domain name is another reference... Sanity (is) not statistical.

"It was curious to think that the sky was the same for everybody, in Eurasia or Eastasia as well as here. And the people under the sky were also very much the same--everywhere, all over the world, hundreds or thousands of millions of people just like this, people ignorant of one another's existence, held apart by walls of hatred and lies, and yet almost exactly the same--people who had never learned to think but were storing up in their hearts and bellies and muscles the power that would one day overturn the world."

first post!

I'm really excited to start my blog... even though no one's reading it at the moment. Oh well, I'm hoping I can recruit followers of my Aunt's blog so this won't be a total failure. If anyone is reading this, welcome! I promise I'll be a little more intelligent on my next post =]
For the readers who don't know me, my name is Aimee. I just started my senior year of high school, and decided to make this yet another small project of mine. I will be discussing books, politics, religion, and... life in general. My real posts will probably start coming in the next couple of days.
Until then...
